LaMelo Ball got drafted third overall in Wednesday’s draft. The Charlotte Hornets picked him to become the face of their franchise.

While LaVar Ball did not seem happy with his son becoming the third overall pick during draft night, he embraced the challenge that the Hornets offer.

In particular, LaMelo Ball is going to play for Michael Jordan’s team in Charlotte, which got stacked at the bottom of the Eastern Conference the last few seasons.

According to Tim Keown of ESPN, who attended the Ball family Draft party, LaVar delivered an interesting message, after LaMelo was announced as the third pick.

“And when the pick was announced, LaVar, who was relatively quiet for part of the night, announced, ‘Tell MJ we’re coming!’” Keown recalled. “So we may get that 1-on-1 we’ve been waiting for.”

LaVar Ball claimed in the past that he could beat Michael Jordan in a game of 1-on-1. That was one of many bizarre things Ball said to the media during Lonzo Ball’s first season in the NBA.
