After working to extend the deadline for Gordon Hayward to decide on his $34.2 million player option, it appears that deadline is now Nov. 19.

The Boston Celtics and Hayward will now get more time to assess the situation, as the deadline got pushed back from today at 5 p.m. to Thursday at 5 p.m., notes ESPN’s Zach Lowe and Tim Bontemps.

It’s rare for a team and player to agree to have a deadline like this pushed back unless something is up or something involves both the team and the player, according to John Hollinger of The Athletic.

There have been rumors that Hayward isn’t a lock to opt-in with the Celtics, as he is drawing “a lot of interest” from other teams.

Hayward will either end up staying with the Celtics or being a trade candidate this week.
