Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis plans to opt out of his $28.75 million player option for 2020-2021 and re-sign with the team.
The plan is for Davis and his agent Rich Paul to hold meetings in the coming weeks to discuss and determine the contract length and structure that is “most sensible” for him, according to Shams Charania.
The 27-year-old big man will have the option to sign a two-year deal with a player option for the second season, a three-year deal with a player option for the third season or a four-year deal with a player option for the fourth season.
Davis will also have the ability to sign a max deal in 2022 when he’ll have 10 years of NBA experience.
He averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.3 blocks per game in 62 regular season games, helping the Lakers reach the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
Davis then averaged 27.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 blocks per game in 21 playoff games en route to winning his first NBA title with the Lakers.
To cap off his impressive first year with the Lakers, Davis finished sixth in MVP voting, second in Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-NBA First Team alongside teammate LeBron James.
