Before even the expiration of his contract (2021), Olympiacos extended with Kostas Papanikolaou for three more years. Papanikolaou has been one of the key players to the club’s success and one of the best forwards in the Euroleague. Olympiacos wants to keep its core of Greek players together and so their decision to renew with Kostas Papanikolaou was the first move.
Papanikolaou joined Olympiacos Piraeus back in 2009 winning the back-to-back Euroleague championships in 2012 and 2013, when he was also named EuroLeague Rising Star. He continued his career with Barcelona and moved to the NBA for the Houston Rockets and the Denver Nuggets. In 2016, Papanikolaou returned to Olympiacos, the club where he has spent the larger part of his professional career.
