Bill Russell was an important figure during the 1960s and 1970s being a huge advocate of the civil rights movement in the United States.

Russell became the first black coach in the history of the NBA and is outspoken in social justice issues. Now, with players protesting against racial inequality and police brutality, the current Boston Celtics player talked on Bill Russell’s legacy as an activist.

The Hall of Famer led the first boycott in the NBA back in 1961, while he was among the first all-Black starting lineup in the NBA with the Celtics in 1963.
