Question for Roy M - is Wisnievski really going to be Maccabi first option on PG?

I was convinced that he will be second option, but now I’m not sure. You are going to play NBA basketball next season…

Apparently, it's Allen Iverson. "Point guard" Allen Iverson. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

The Greek League just passed a new rule that all clubs can sign 3 Americans. The same day this is announced, US media states that they have just offered Iverson a huge contract.

2 years $10 million net, (like 2 years $20 million in the NBA).

"a source close to ownership told Yahoo! Sports the team is debating whether to extend a two-year, $10 million offer to Allen Iverson"

Marketing wise it might be a good move for Oly but not necessarily on the court. What is going to happen in my opinion is that Iverson will try to do the same what Nate Robinson did. He will use this offer to get a contract in NBA and won't sign with Oly. Since the market of top class point guards in Europe is almost closed they won't be able to find anyone here. In the end it will be some random point guard with NBA experience.

Today various sites report that Linas Kleiza was presented an offer from Olympiacos worth 2.5 million euros per season. It is for two years. According to Krepsinis.net Kleiza's representative in Europe claims that both parties are coming closer to the deal.

Yes. I admit that it will be bir risk to take him as a 1st PG, but this is Gershon decision. Looks like that Meir tapiro will be his BU.

Iverson and Kleiza know each other because they were teammates in Denver. The Kleiza signing may be simply to help secure Iverson, you never know.
Linas Kleiza seems to be really close to Olympiakos. His agent told a greek newspaper that Oly and Linas are close to an agreement and he hopes the deal will be done soon. In case this happens Oly will have to sign only a PG to be a competitive F4 team. Names are getting public but don't be sure about anything you hear!! Nate's case is not closed yet...

Personally I don't believe rumours about AI have a realistic basis..."The answer" wants to stay in NBA and I thing he'll make it. Otherwise...

Supposedly, Iverson has one NBA offer. A 1 year deal from the Charlotte Bobcats for $5 million gross. So Iverson's NBA options are quite limited.

Some Greek A1 signings:

Panellinios signed William Avery

Panionios signed Dimitris Papanikolaou and Ivan Zoroski

Trikala signed Michalis Tsairelis and Tyrell Biggs

Peristeri signed Dimitrios Charitopoulos and Greek-American NCAA player Michael Bramos

Bramos is an interesting signing for Peristeri. The Greek national team and Panathinaikos are also reported to be interested in him.

Panionios announced officially Dimitris Papanikolaou (202-F-77) and Ivan Zoroski (195-G-79, agency: Octagon). It seems that Markovic is doing really great job in the Nea Smyrni team.

Some more Greek A1 transfers:

Trikala signed former NBA player and D League MVP Kasib Powell

Maroussi signed Jamon Gordon, Giorgos Diamantopoulos, and Levon Kendall

Kavala signed Savvas Iliadis

Peristeri signed Cliff Hammonds and Rudy Mbemba

Panellinios signed Britton Johnsen

Ilisiakos signed D League slam dunk champ and Defensive Player of the Year Brent Petway
Benetton Treviso signed Donatas Motiejunas

Davor Kus Signed with Benetton too.

Stefon Jackson agreed with Darussafaka.

Yogev Ohayon in talks with Gravelines
Ricky Rubio will play the next 2 years with Joventut Badalona.

Ricky Rubio: Reportedly Staying in Spain

Update: Rubio has decided to put an end to the issue of transferring and will remain with DKV Joventut where he has two years left on his contract, Canis Hoopus reports.

Recommendation: It is unfortunate how this all turned out, but this should officially mark the end of the ongoing speculation that has surrounded Rubio over the past month about whether he would play for Minnesota this season. Jonny Flynn will head into next season as the unquestioned starter at point guard.
Von Wafer to Olympiacos. Klieza almost a done deal.

Olympiacos are building a very intimidating roster. Despite losing Greer, they should be able to compete for all titles again this season. Kleiza shouldn't have any problems adapting, but Wafer could take a while. If they add Jaaber to close the PG spot they'll have their best team in years IMO. He has Euroleague experience and he's not short on talent. With Childress already adapted to the Euroleague and the expectations after a whole season, Pao should have some great competition this season in Greece.
What will Kelati do now? He needs to find a new team. It could be difficult to do that as most of the teams have finished building their rosters already.

Huge money will be spent on those players but can they bring success instantly?

I think Kelati will be able to find a team eventually...there aren't many players as good as him on the market at this stage of the offseason, and Euroleague/top Eurocup teams looking for that final piece will gladly add him to the roster.

As for Oly's players, as I said Childress already has a year of Euro experience under his belt, which is already a plus for them. Jaaber (when he signs) and Kleiza shouldn't have any problems since they have plenty of international experience. Wafer is a wild card...will he end up like Greer or like Pargo? Who knows...if he adapts quickly and becomes the scorer they need, they'll be a very dangerous team.

I don't think that would be enough to beat PAO. If you look at it player by player, PAO is still better, plus they have a better coach.
