Kelati in Pireaus!

Thomas Kelati will be the second signing for Olympiakos this summer. The former Unicaja's SG just signed with Oly for 2 years. The cotract has not been announced yet.

What about new point guard? Kelati will take the spot of non-EU player, right?

In other news Kalnietis stays in Zalgiris http://www.talkbasket.net/news/kalnietis...-1453.html

Olympiakos this year has the right to play with 3 non-EU players and 3 EU players. Childress, Kelati and probably a PG will be the non-EU ones. McIntyre seems to be closer to Pireaus after Siena's decrease of demand. Except for that Kelati is getting married to a Polish woman so he's gonna be soon a EU player.

Nate Robinson has a 10 M$ offer from Olympiakos foor 2 years.

Kelati will earn 800K Euro the first year and 1 M Euro for the second.
I see, thanks for the info. What about the new PF? I heard it will be American palyer.
It looks like Kalnietis could be in trouble as both Benetton and Zalgiris claim that he has contract with them. Though his agent clearly said that the players is only contracted to Benetton and that the documents that Zalgiris has prove nothing. The worst ending to this story could be a ban for 2 years for Kalnietis. That won't happen in my opinion. But Benetton is prepared to fight for Kalnietis and sort this at FIBA.

That would be stupid.
oly added with kelati what they lacked last year: 3point shooter

i am not convinced about robinson though. Haven't seen him play, but an american with no euro experience running the point leads to disaster most of the times

So true. The worst thing is that his point guard skills are really underdeveloped. So if he joined Olympiacos, I'd see him as more of a Lynn Greer replacement.

Anyway, if they can decide between Robinson and McIntyre, they have to go for McIntyre.
I know a lot of Oly fans who will not be celebrating this signing.
Like I said. Robinson is a SG in a small PG body (only 1m75), he is very athletic and jumps out the gym but he certainly can't run a team for 20minutes or more. He really isn't a playmaker more a scorer. He is very talented though but I have a lot of questions about his intelligence. Childress for instance was considered a smart player.
Aris signed former Panathinaikos' man Chatzivrettas.

I totally disagree with those who doubt about Robinson. Well, I see why most of you prefer McIntyre, he's an experienced guy, great shooter, can pass the ball perfectly, can run, knows about Euroleague. OK! But we're talking about an NBA superstar for goodness' sake!! Not Lynn Greer, not Holden not Scoonie Penn, not Horace Jenkins not even A. Parker! A true superstar! He can shoot, pass, dunk, run really fast, block, steal and I'm sure he can do this against Tepic, Prigioni, Llull, Omar Cook and JR Holden!! He's done it against Carmelo, LeBron, Kobe, Nash, T. Parker! I only hope Oly will sign one of those two or Saras and don't end up with signing players like Kelati!

Just look at his stats!!!! It's paranoid what we're talking about!

I think Robinson can be successful for Oly if he can control his ego and if he won't try to do too much. He really is a huge talent who can explode for a lot of points frequently.
As a neutral fan I should say that it would be interesting to see Robinson playing in Euroleague. The positive side of such transfer, if it happens, is even more attention for Euroleague. Robinson would attract more spectators in the arenas and on TV which is always a good thing.

Looking from Olympiacos' perspective it might be not the best move when it is possible to sign McIntyre.

Come on man. To be perfectly honest about it Childress is a better player than Robinson is. Robinson won't be that great if he is signed by Olympiacos.

Very undersized shooting guard that cannot run an offense or handle playing as a point guard. Plays absolutely no defense at all at any time. Has very inflated offensive stats from playing for D'Antoni. Olympiacos would be making yet another mistake. But the good thing is it will be one more time that US sports media gets humbled when Robinson fails.

Of course if you ask any NBA fan about Childress now, they universally claim he was never even on a rotation in the NBA. So for a tiny bit Robinson's failure in Europe would boost the Euroleague and then it will be totally swept under the rug, just like the Childress experiment.

After a couple months of the season US media will be saturated with the headlines, "Robinson Never Gets Paid in Europe". Within 5 months after the season started, even if he is worse than Childress was US basketball fans everywhere will have already begun the mantra "Robinson dominated Europe and he was the Isaiah Thomas of Euroleague".

It will then become a 100% "fact" forever according to all US fans, even if he was a terrible player.

Just like now NBA fans declare that Childress was Euroleague MVP, Greek League MVP and even "the Michael Jordan of Euroleague". As incredibly pathetic as that is, it is also absolutely what NBA fans are saying now. They also claim his team won all the championships.

The Euroleague will NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER get any shred of respect in the US.
This is euroleague signings and rumours thread.

Post your anti-NBA or anti-anything rhetorics somewhere else...
Come on Panathinaikos! Who gives a shit about the US media oppinion? Everybody, including you, has an oppinion regardless of what espn may say! I know who Childress is and I don't care about any US media or any European media. I don't wait for a journalist to tell me if Childress, Robinson or Chatzivrettas is good or not. I don't care how much Childress, Robinson or Kelati cost (I'm not Angelopoulos' book-keeper you know!) I just want them to play. And I know that Childress may not be a great shooter he's though one of the 2-3 best SF in Euroleague! I also know Robinson may not have the basketball intelligence of Prigioni or Diamantidis but he can run better than Spanoulis, pass better than Holden, score better than Rakocevic nad jump better than any guard in Euroleague. And I'm completely OK with that!

Of course McIntyre wouldn't bother me... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

what about the power forward position? what's happening there?
It seems that Vladimir Dasic (Buducnost Podgorica) is close to move to Partizan Belgrade.

Two more names are very much mentioned for Partizan - Dusan Kecman (Ex-Pao) and Branko Milisavljevic.
It seems that Oly's not going to sign any other players after the PG. The Kleiza-case won't go further and probably Olympiakos will stay with Mavrokefalidis and Erceg in PF position. Only if they sign an EU-PG I think they'll try to sign a US PF. Oly's squad seems to have 5 Guards (Papaloukas, Halperin, Kelati, McIntyre?, Sloukas) 2 forwards (Childress,Vasilopoulos), 2 PF/C (Erceg, Mavrokefalidis) and 3 Centers (Bourousis, Vujcic, Glyniadakis). In case the PG is Saras(???) the PF will be American. Rumours: D. Gooden, David Lee
