German League champion FC Bayern Munich has made the first addition to its roster for the next Turkish Airlines Euroleague season with the announcement of a two-year deal with point guard Anton Gavel on Tuesday. Gavel (1.89 meters, 29 years old) arrives from a German rival Brose Baskets Bamberg, where he spent five seasons and has played a major role in Bamberg’s rise to become four-time German champion and a Top 16 qualifier in the Euroleague. In his four Euroleague seasons, Gavel missed only one game and has started 52 of the 53 he has played. He finished last season with some of career-best numbers, averaging 11.6 points while connecting on amazing 50% of his three-point shots. Gavel also dished 3.4 assists and grabbed 2.5 rebounds per game, both career best numbers. Gavel started his professional career in Germany, where he spent five years with Karlsruhe and Giessen. He also spent couple of seasons in the Spanish League with Murcia, and played for Aris Thessaloniki in Greece. Before joining Bamberg in 2009, he played two games with Svit in his native Slovakia.
