The New York Knicks won 90-82 at home in Game 6 to advance to the NBA Finals. In doing so, they eliminated their rivals, the Indiana Pacers.

Allan Houston scored 32 points to lead the way for New York. He played 47:01 in the game. Latrell Sprewell added 20 points.

The Knicks outscored the Pacers 31-23 in the fourth quarter and held Reggie Miller to eight points on 3-18 shooting in the game.

The Knicks incredible run began when they snuck into the playoffs as the number eight seed after a disappointing regular season.

They upset the number one seeded Miami Heat in the first round. The Knicks battled to force a win-or-go-home Game 5 in Miami. With New York trailing by one point, Houston hit a game-winning shot with less than one second remaining.

The Knicks then used that momentum to sweep the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the postseason.

In the Eastern Conference Finals they took on Miller and the Pacers.

Patrick Ewing’s double double led New York to a road victory in Game 1. However, after Game 2, it was revealed he had suffered an achilles injury. Ewing would miss the rest of the postseason.

With the series tied at one game a piece, the Knicks returned home to Madison Square Garden. They trailed 91-88 with time running out in the game but with just over five seconds remaining Larry Johnson hit a 3-pointer and got fouled on the play. He hit the free throw giving New York a 92-91 lead. The Pacers failed to score and the Knicks won Game 3.

Indiana won Game 4 but the Knicks bounced back with a crucial 101-94 victory on the road in Game 5. They outscored the Pacers 36-25 in the fourth quarter. Sprewell had 29 points and Marcus Camby finished with 21 points 13 rebounds and six blocks off the bench.

The Knicks then closed out the series at home sending them to the NBA Finals to play the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs had been dominant throughout the postseason thanks to Tim Duncan and David Robinson. The Finals were no exception and the Knicks sorely missed Ewing. Their magical run ended with a loss to San Antonio in five games.

Still, the disappointing ending should not take away from New York’s impressive run.
