Portland Trail Blazers veteran Carmelo Anthony has admitted he “hit rock bottom” before he was handed a lifeline back into the NBA.

The 10-time NBA All-Star was infamously dropped by the Houston Rockets in November of 2018 after just 10 games and two starts. He didn’t get back on an NBA roster until the Blazers signed him to a one-year deal last November.

A recent guest on the UNINTERRUPTED Podcast with hosts Paul Rivera and Maverick Carter, as well as three-time WNBA champion Sue Bird, Melo detailed the struggles leading up to his joining Portland.

He said:

I hit rock bottom. I hit rock bottom emotionally, and I had to build myself back up – basically by myself – to get here where I’m at today to be able to tell this story. So, this season will always be one of the highlight chapters of any story that I’ll ever tell.

The forward was averaging a very decent 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists this season, with his redemption campaign well underway before the NBA shut down on March 11.
