Lega Basket Serie A is officially canceled due to the coronavirus breakdown.

Coaches and players playing for Italian teams have all agreed with the Italian Basketball Federation on “a 20% reduction in the total gross remuneration on the engagements of coaches and players above 50,000 Euros for the 2019-20 season, while establishing two protection bands with a lower percentage of reduction for the remunerations below this figure to protect the weakest incomes,” according to the league

The president of the Italian League, Umberto Gandini, said:

“This agreement is an important result and is the result of a common will of clubs, players of coaches to face this difficult situation with realism, aware that only a collective effort can create the basis for a solid restart in the sign of the financial sustainability of the whole movement.”

Following Gandini’s statement, the president of GIBA Alessandro Marzoli said:

“The players have been exemplary professionals in these months of great difficulty, from all points of view. The further availability they demonstrate in these hours is a gesture of love for the world of basketball. Their sensitivity and spirit of sacrifice demonstrate how they can be protagonists on and off the pitch and how fundamental their active involvement in future choices for Italian basketball is.”
