It’s day three of the Eurobasket second round here in Ljubljana. Teams from Group A look to get a measure of revenge on the sides from Group B for their opening day sweep.
Lithuania 86-67 Belgium
Lithuania completed an 86-67 rout of Belgium in the first game of the day to all but send the Lions home from Eurobasket.
A 26-9 second quarter which showcased Lithuania’s defensive strengths to devastating effect proved to be the game-changer as Belgium lacked a player that could go inside and challenge the Lithuanian big men.
With the score at 69-35 after three quarters of play, the fourth quarter was merely going through the motions.
Donatas Motiejunas led Lithuania with 13 points as all managed to contribute to the scoresheet. Jonathan Tabu had 15 to lead the Belgian Lions.
Ukraine 82-75 Serbia
Ukraine have stayed alive in Group E thanks to deserved 82-75 win over Serbia.
Maxym Korniyenko led the Ukrainian attack with 21 points and eight rebounds as they kept their composure and pulled clear in the early stages of the third quarter, despite a fightback from the Serbians.
Eugene Jeter, who hit 20 points hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the third period gave his side the confidence boost that they needed to get the job done over the last ten minutes.
Nemanja Bjelica had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Serbian attack.
France 102-91 Latvia
France recorded a 102-91 win over Latvia in perhaps the most free-flowing contest of Eurobasket 2013 thus far.
With this score, France have become the first team to reach 100 points or over in this tournament. Leading comfortably 52-35 at the half, France then fell victim to a Latvian onslaught which challenged Les Bleus’ resistance.
Thanks to the duo of Alexis Ajinca’s 25 points and Tony Parker’s 23, France were able to get the win they needed which all but seals their spot in the quarter-finals.
Dairis Bertans had 28 points to lead Latvia.
