German international Heiko Schaffartzik has joined Euroleague newcomers Bayern Munich from Alba Berlin.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Bayern as they strengthen their squad for the new Euroleague season, which begins on October when they face fellow new boys Zielona Gora from Poland.

Schaffartzik, a Berlin native left Alba in 2003 and had spells with Nuremberg, Oldenburg, Ludwigsburg or Braunschweig before he moved to Turkey to play for Turk Telekom. The German then moved back home in 2011 to play for Alba.

The guard averaged 6.2 points in 21 Euroleague games last season as Alba Berlin reached the Top 16. He joins last season’s Bosnian team-mate Nihad Djedovic at the club.

Schaffartzik is currently training with the German national team ahead of Eurobasket next month.
