Panathinaikos B.C. announced today that their captain Dimitris Diamantidis will stay to the team for two more years.

Panathinaikos B.C. announced today that the team’s captain, Dimitris Diamantidis will be part of the team for the next two years. The first meeting of the two sides was yesterday but it was cancelled, so today, it took place and the team agreed terms with the player’s manager.

Diamantidis became part of the team back in 2004 after he left Iraklis, and since then he is considered to be one of the top players in Europe. Since he became part of Panathinaikos, he has celebrated 3 Euroleague titles (2007-2009-2011), 8 Greek championships and 7 Greek cups.

But the awards won’t stop there.He was crowned as defensive player of the year 5 times (4 consecutive) and he also took part in 11 greek All-Star games. Concerning his personal stats, he was the first guard to reach 100 blocks in Eurolegue. Meanwhile he is the player with the most steals in Euroleague history and he is only second in assists!

Diamantidis stated: “I am satisfied and happy here, and i never thought of leaving the team, because Panathinaikos is my home. What we have to do now is to work hard and keep playing in a high level.”

Panathinaikos chairman said: “Diamantidis is the top athlete in Europe over the last 10 years. He is a great player and he is the leader of a team that achieved so much and has been named as the top team of modern European basketball.”
