Former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Jarvis Hayes is going to play for Qatar national team in FIBA Asia Championship.
According to various sources, Qatar basketball federation was choosing between few American players, but Hayes became the chosen one.
31 years old 203 cm tall forward lately has been playing for Ironi Ashkelon team in Israel. In the local competition he averaged 19.5 points and 4,4 rebounds per game. American sharpshooter made 45% of his 3-point attempts.
Before playing in Israel Hayes had stint in Russia and Turkey. The player moved to Europe in 2011. In his career he had experience of playing for Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets.
FIBA Asia Championship starts in August, in Manila (Philippines). Qatar are drawn in one group with Japan, Lebanon and Hong Kong. Only top three teams of the competition get a chance to play in FIBA World Championship in Spain.
