Dominican Republic eliminated Korea from the Olympic Qualifying Tournament following a 95-85 victory in Caracas.

Korea will be disappointed with this defeat after making such a good start over a rusty Dominican side, but the Caribbean team found their gear and powered through to victory.

Atlanta Hawks big man Al Horford led all scorers with a sublime double-double of 30 points and 12 rebounds for the victors. He was supported by Jack Martinez who hit 16. Korea were led by Eric Sandrin’s 21 points, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.

The first quarter belonged to Korea, as they got good looks to hit shots from long distance, as the Dominican Republic were sloppy with the ball, turning it over four time. After one, Korea had a deserved 19-17 lead.

The second was a little more even, but the Asian side, held on to their advantage at half-time, leading 41-37.

Dominican Republic, led by Horford hit back in the third to take the lead mid-way through the period and as the game wore on, the Dominicans were in command, as the Koreans looked fatigued. The Caribbean side led 71-65 heading to the fourth quarter.

Korea stormed back in the final quarter but the Dominican Republic ended the game strong to take the win.

Dominican Republic play Russia tomorrow.
