Barcelona, CSKA Moscow, Anadolu Efes want Joel Freeland

The chances that Joel Freeland will continue his career in Malaga are becoming smaller. Three elite teams are reportedly willing to make an offer in order to break his contract.

As it was reported by, Barcelona, CSKA Moscow and Anadolu Efes have already made first inquiries regarding the possiblity of signing Joel Freeland.

25-year-old British international became one of the key players in Unicaja and the team was looking to build its roster around him. However, poor results this season changed the position of the club.

Unicaja nearly lost its Euroleague A License as they were very close from finishing in the bottom half of the ACB league. Andalucian side won four games in Euroleague that were enough to reach the Top 16. Though the second stage was disastrous for Unicaja and it ended 0-6.

Freeland, who was ‘not for sale’, could leave Unicaja if the right offer comes. The high contract buy-out might put away the clubs interested in the services of Unicaja’s center.

In addition to the interest from some of the top European teams, Freeland is also being considered by Portland Trail Blazers who own the rights to the player.

If Freeland was to leave Unicaja for another team in Europe, his new club would have to pay €2.5 million to break his contract. Though Unicaja could lower their demands in case a good offer is presented.

Barcelona could include Fran Vazquez in the deal and to lower the buy-out by doing so. Vazquez hasn’t enjoyed as much playing time lately in Catalan club. Besides, he has already played in Malaga.

The buy-out for an NBA team is reportedly €1.5 million which is also high considering the fact that NBA teams can only pay $500K in such cases.
