Maccabi Electra head coach David Blatt has agreed a new multi-year extension which will keep him at the Israeli champions until at least the 2013/14 season.

The deal is for two seasons with the option of a third. Blatt, who is 52-years-old is in his second reign as coach of Maccabi.

Blatt led the Russian national team to bronze in last year’s Eurobasket in Lithuania and with Maccabi, he has guided them to two Euroleague Final Four’s, won three Israeli league titles and four national cups.

“No one could be happier than me, this is an emotional moment,” Blatt said. “Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv is dear to my heart and I am happy and proud to continue serving it.

“I thank the ownership and management for the faith they have in me. I am surrounded by people at the highest level, who allow me to lead the team to the highest heights we could dream of.”

Maccabi have qualified to the Euroleague last-eight playoffs via Group H and face-off against one of the favourites Barcelona in Catalunya later on tonight. Barcelona have also advanced to the last-eight as well.
