Dirk Nowitzki stated that it was probably a mistake to take part in the Eurobasket and that he should have rested.

Dirk, currently nursing a sore right knee, admitted that the long NBA season, followed with a trip to Lithuania was too much.

“Looking back, playing in the Eurobasket was obviously not the best decision, but it was something that I chose for my country. It didn’t help me prepare for this season however.

“I started training in November and having to play 5-6 games per week has proven to be very tough. The week that I will stay out will be like another training camp for me in order to recover and become better. I hope to return soon.”

The NBA Finals MVP was originally scheduled to miss a week’s worth of games, but both coach Rick Carlisle and Mavs owner Mark Cuban have said that the seven footer might miss more games.

Dallas are currently seventh in the Western Conference with an 11-7 record. They host Ricky Rubio and the Minnesota Timberwolves later on.
