Group D has gone pretty much as expected as both Slovenia and Russia through, and third place still open.

Slovenia, who haven’t been convincing thus far in this tournament, sealed Belgium’s fate with a 70-61 win.

With this defeat, Belgium are definitely out, despite a great effort from Tomas Van Den Spiegel who ended with 16 points and seven boards.

Unfortunately though, it was Van Den Spiegel’s turnover in the clutch which allowed Slovenia to take advantage and record a victory. Goran Dragic led Slovenia with 18 points.

Russia saw off Bulgaria 89-77 to set-up a last day clash with Slovenia.

Andrei Kirilenko led all scorers with 25 points.

Georgia remain the team most likely to qualify in third, after they defeated Ukraine 69-53 in a drab encounter.

Manuchar Markoishvili, George Tsintsadze each got 14 points to lead Georgia. After a reasonably close first half, the Georgians pulled away in the third period and then restricted Mike Fratello’s side to just eight points in the final period to seal the win.
