As it was previously expected, today Zalgiris has officially announced the signing of Sonny Weems for one year. The player will spend the full season in Kaunas since there’s no NBA-out option in the contract.

Weems, who turned 25 today, spent the last three years in NBA with Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors. He played for the Raptors for the last two season.

Zalgiris has already signed Robertas Javtokas and extended the contract of DeJuan Collins for the coming season. The club is currently negotiating with D’or Fischer of Real Madrid and could also bring one more player from the NBA.

The rumours that Weems will earn 1 million euros while playing in Kaunas have been denied by the club’s representatives.

Zalgiris moves to the new 15,000 arena next season. Lithuanian champions were drawn to Group B in Euroleague and will take on reigning champions Panathinaikos, CSKA Moscow, Unicaja, Bamberg and KK Zagreb.
