Mersey Tigers’ play-caller Tony Garbelotto has been voted Molten Coach of the Year after a fine season for the Liverpool club.

The award is voted for by owners of the 12 BBL clubs, and the 42-year-old collects the award for the first time having lifted two trophies so far this season.

The Londoner has now won all four pieces of silverware at the top level of British basketball.

Garbelotto’s team won a thrilling BBL Championship title with a 25-8 record as the trophy went to Liverpool for the first time.

They completed a double when a dominant second half display saw them overcome Guildford Heat 84-66 in the Franklin & Marshall BBL Trophy final in front of a big crowd at the O2 Arena in London.

The only negative in a season where his side have struggled with injuries but have lost just ten of their 49 games came at the NIA in January as Tigers were hammered 93-66 by One Health Sharks Sheffield in the BBL Cup final.

Gabelotto and his British dominated side will look to gain revenge for that on Saturday when the season reached its finale with the BBL Championship Playoff final against the Sharks.
