The first scrimmage of the Team USA has fans scratching their heads. The team which will be playing in FIBA World Cup in China next month lost to USA Select Team.
It wasn’t full basketball game though. The two teams played only a single quarter. USA Select Team won 36-17.
Team USA was without De’Aaron Fox, Kyle Kuzma, Joe Harris, Myles Turner and Jaylen Brown.
Meanwhile USA Select Team was composed mostly of the players who represented the country in World Cup qualifiers and was coached by Jeff Van Gundy.
USA will face Spain at Honda Center, Anaheim, California, on Friday which will be it’s first proper test.
The Americans’ World Cup preparation schedule also includes games against Australia (August 22 and 24) and Canada (August 26).
Team USA will start their World Cup campaign in Group E alongside Czech Republic, Japan and Turkey.
