According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Detroit Pistons have claimed forward Christian Wood off free agency waivers.

Wood impressed in the G-League, averaging 29.3 points per game and 14.0 rebounds in 28 games last season.

When he got his opportunity with the New Orleans Pelicans, Wood averaged 16.9 points per game and 7.9 rebounds in eight games at the end of the season.

Wood has flashed his skills when he’s had the chance, but there may not be many minutes to go around, as the Pistons frontcourt is deep with Andre Drummond, Blake Griffin, Markieff Morris and Thon Maker.

Wood could have some value if Drummond or Griffin were to miss any time next season, as Griffin dealt with knee issues last season.

The Pistons also drafted rookie Sekou Doumbouya from France who will figure to get some minutes in the frontcourt.
