The Phoenix Suns announced that Ryan McDonough is no longer a General Manager of the Suns. His duties for a time will be taken by the current Vice President of Basketball Operations James Jones and Assistant General Manager Trevor Bukstein.

The Suns owner Robert Sarver explained his decision by referring to willingness “to prepare for the upcoming NBA season and to continue pursuing opportunities to strengthen our roster. Over the course of the season, we will explore both internal and external options as we look to restructure our basketball front office leadership” (nba.com).

This summer the Suns selected No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton, signed a deal with veteran Trevor Ariza and acquired Ryan Anderson after the trade. Knowing that the upcoming season for the Suns will probably be better than the previous ones, the decision to relieve Ryan McDonough looks quite strange.
