Georgian international power forward/center Giorgi Shermadini is on his way to Slovenian Euroleague regular Olimpija Ljubljana.

According to TalkBasket sources from Greece the move is a done deal, and the player is expected to be in Ljubljana by Wednesday.

Zeljko Obradovic was thinking of loaning out Shermadini in order for him to gain some experience and playing time and Olimpija stepped on that in order to secure another center that they were missing from their roster. But he wanted to give the player one last chance, by taking him to Gomelsky Cup and asking from the refs to surpass the protocol and allow Panathinaikos (and their opponents) to play with thirteen players, so Shermadini got some playing time.

Shermadini didn’t do so well, while the other center backup Ian Vouyoukas did great, scoring 18 points in the game he played, so the choice was clear. Shermadini himself was very positive on going on loan as he realised that with the signing of Aleks Maric and Ian Vouyoukas he would see his playing time shrink even more.

Although the status of the move is uncertain, it will probably be a two-seasons loan. The player could even get some playing time in the game against Igokea on October 9th.

The move leaves a vacant European spot on Panathinaikos roster. Whether they will fill it, remains unknown.
