Real Madrid has reached an agreement with Maccabi Tel Aviv’s D´or Fischer, signing him through the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

The player will be officially presented on Tuesday 27 July at 13:00 CET in the Press Room of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

D’or Fischer (12/11/1981, Philadelphia, USA) comes to Real Madrid from Maccabi Tel Aviv. He is an intimidating center who pulls down a large number of rebounds and also helps out on offense.

These skills have earned D’or Fischer a great reputation in European basketball. The centre can score in the paint and from mid-distance shots; he nets 84.2% of his field goal attempts. Last season, he averaged 8.1 points, 5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in the Euroleague and earned MVP honours in the Top 16’s Game 1.

The 28-year old American has been playing in Europe for the past five years. He started standing out in West Virginia University by setting a new record in blocks for his team against Southwest Texas and was one short of David Robinson’s all-time NCAA record. He played four prep games with Charlotte Bobcats in the 2005/06 NBA before leaving for Europe.

Fischer joined German side Oldenburg, earning best blocker honours in the national league championship. He then played for Belgian team Eufonia Bree, leading both the rebound and block rankings (10.8 and 2.8 per game, respectively). His incredible run got him noticed by Maccabi Tel Aviv, who eventually acquired his services. Fischer won a league title (2008/09) and a Cup of Israel (2009/10) with the team, averaging 10.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in the previous campaign.
