In an interesting interview with Turkish media outlet Sabah, Ergin Ataman revealed that he doesn’t think he would work with Fenerbahce.

Ataman, currently without a team, coached Galatasaray from 2012 to 2017, leading them to the EuroCup crown in 2016, as well as the Turkish league title during his time.

“Normally, as a [professional] coach I should be able to sign with any team in the world,” Ataman said.

“But as an individual, I am considered as a legend of Galatasaray basketball. We live in turkey, here things are different. Turkish people are emotional. so I don’t think an offer will come up to me from Fenerbahçe in the future, and also I don’t think I could work for them.”

Despite his objections, veteran guard Sinan Guler headed to EuroLeague champions Fenerbahce from Galatasaray in the summer, going against Ataman’s philosophy but Ataman says that he understands.

“I was told that Galatasaray didn’t have a serious offer for Sinan,” he said. “I think his move is normal from the pro standpoint. Everyone dreams about going to a European champion team.”
