Spain head coach Sergio Scariolo has hinted that this year’s national side is certainly not finalised as many people believe it to be and also stated that the team might feature a surprise inclusion.

The Spaniards head to this summer’s Eurobasket, which begins August 31 as one of the favourites to retain their title that they won in Lille, France, two years ago. They then went on to capture the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics, last year.

Spain will feature the Gasol brothers, as well as Sergio Rodriguez, Sergio Llull and Ricky Rubio but other key members of the team like Rudy Fernandez, Nikola Mirotic and Victor Claver are out.

With such key figures of the team out, Scariolo has revealed that we might see some new faces at Eurobasket.

“To this day, the final roster of the team is not locked,” Scariolo said. “We have at least one spot in doubt and we want to decide without any hurry.”

The three-time Eurobasket winner also commented that the style of play might be different ahead of the tournament, where Spain will be in Group C alongside co-hosts Romania, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungry and Montenegro.

“Thanks to the versatility and versatility of our big men we can keep a few of the things we did for other years, but we are trying to enrich our game thanks to the passing ability of the front line,”explained Scariolo who intends to use Sergio Llull as the starting shooting guard and also take advantage of the Gasol brothers, especially from the three-point line.
