Darussafaka Dogus took advantage of a slip up by Crvena Zvezda to keep their EuroLeague Playoff dreams alive.

Darussafaka got a narrow 73-67 win in the Istanbul derby against already eliminated Galatasaray at the Volkswagen Arena.

The home team trailed by seven points after the first quarter, but won the rebounding battle 50-34 and leaned heavily on an outstanding defensive effort, which restricted Galatasaray to just 28 points in the second half.

“We talked at half-time about relaxing on offence and being more intense on defence, and in the second half we restricted them to 28 points, and made some shots which made things easier,” Darussafaka coach David Blatt said.

“We’ve been a good rebounding team, and that’s a possession statistic. But we’ve got to go a better job converting those offensive rebounds into points. If not, you’re just wasting energy.”

Brad Wanamaker led the winners with 22 points.

Crvena Zvezda could have sealed a Playoff spot if they had won and Darussafaka lost their game but the Serbs slipped up at Barcelona.

Stratos Perperoglou led the winners with 17 points as the Catalan side won 67-54.

The two teams battling for the number one seed in the Playoffs both won their games on Friday as Real Madrid edged Olympiacos 79-73 in Piraeus.

Anthony Randolph and Sergio Llull, scored 21 points apiece and two wins from their final two games would give the 2015 EuroLeague champions the number one seed as they have the head-to-head over second placed CSKA Moscow.

The Muscovites though kept with the pace with Real as they beat Unics Kazan 85-74 on the road.

Nando De Colo won his showdown with the EuroLeague’s top scorer, Keith Langford, by scoring 22 points, while the league’s assist leader, Milos Teodosic, tallied 12 points and 12 assists for the reigning champions.
