Zalgiris will have the third coach this season after the firing of a head coach Ramunas Butautas. This decision comes after recent poor performances by Zalgiris in domestic leagues. One of the most recent and the most famous result was a defeat against Perlas Vilnius in LKL. Perlas is formed mainly of young players. The club joined LKL only this season and the average age of the team is just 19.4 years.

Algirdas Brazys, Sports Director of Zalgiris, was also asked to leave the team. He worked at the club for two months, just a little bit longer than Ramunas Butautas who joined Zalgiris before new year.

Ramunas Butautas is having a rather disappointing season after bringing Lithuanian national team to fiasco in Eurobasket 2009;leaving BC Donetsk in the middle of the season and now being forced to leave Zalgiris after showing disappointing results. Though it wasn’t all that bad for Butautas when he took charge of Zalgiris – he managed to win two games in Euroleague securing the place for his new team in Top 16.

Current assistant coach Darius Maskoliunas will be coaching Zalgiris until it is decided whether to sign another coach or not.
