The Dallas Mavericks are facing a difficult roster decision as they try to find a way to keep longtime center Dwight Powell without losing another player they value.
Dallas already has 15 players on standard contracts, but Powell has agreed to a one-year, $3.88 million deal.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Tarik Biberovic, Marcus Sasser and Moussa Cisse have contracts that would be among the easiest for the Mavericks to move, although the organization would prefer to keep all three.
“League sources tell The Stein Line that the Mavericks have conveyed to Powell that they intend to make a true effort to explore pathways to keep the team’s longest-tenured player active (dating to December 2014) even though it is difficult to see one at the moment,” Stein wrote.
“Dallas’ most sheddable salaries, if we can use that term, are possessed by a trio of players management very much wants to keep: Tarik Biberovic, Marcus Sasser and Moussa Cisse.”
Powell, 35, has been with Dallas since 2014 and remains the longest-tenured player on the team. He has appeared in 763 games for the Mavericks, averaging 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds while also being valued for his experience and leadership.
Biberovic is trying to establish himself in the NBA after spending eight seasons with Fenerbahce. The 56th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft recently made the move to Dallas after a successful career in Turkey.
Sasser arrived from the Detroit Pistons in a July trade after averaging 5.2 points and 2.0 assists last season.
Cisse also remains in Dallas after the Mavericks matched an offer sheet from the New York Knicks. He averaged 4.5 points and 5.7 rebounds during the 2025-26 campaign.
