The Atlanta Hawks explored a trade for Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen earlier this offseason, but Cleveland remains committed to keeping its veteran big man.

While Atlanta has been active during free agency, the team is still seeking additional frontcourt help. Onyeka Okongwu is expected to open the season as the starting center, with Jock Landale backing him up.

Acquiring Allen would allow the Hawks to field a bigger lineup by moving Okongwu to power forward and Jalen Johnson to small forward.

Despite operating near the NBA’s second apron after re-signing James Harden, the Cavaliers have shown little willingness to break up their core.

Cleveland continues to view Allen, Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley as untouchable.

The Cavaliers have also resisted attaching draft picks to move contracts such as Max Strus or Dennis Schroder, believing both veterans remain important parts of the team’s rotation.
