Cameron Carr has yet to appear in an NBA regular-season game, but the Lakers rookie is already attracting attention with his performances in Summer League.
Former Los Angeles guard Isaiah Thomas was among those impressed, saying Carr stood out well before the draft and has continued to prove himself in Las Vegas.
“We’ve been giving a lot of praise to the top four or five picks this week, but Cam Carr has been someone I’ve seen since the [NBA draft combine],” Thomas said.
“He probably had the best showing at the combine, and as you see him now, in the summer league, he’s a hooper’s hooper.”
Carr appeared in four Summer League games, averaging 18.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist.
He made an immediate impression in his debut against the Miami Heat on July 5, scoring 26 points while knocking down four three-pointers.
Thomas believes the rookie’s versatile offensive game could allow him to contribute early in his NBA career.
“I think he’s gonna have a real big impact on the Lakers just cause he can space the floor, he can catch and shoot, and he can put the ball on the ground and make a play for others,” Thomas said. “That’s always good when you’re a young guard coming into this league.”
“So, he’s impressed me the most out of you know, not the top guys, but still somebody in there where everybody respects this guy and his game.”
