Jalen Brunson has been the driving force behind the Knicks for several seasons, but the Spurs have largely succeeded in limiting his impact during the NBA Finals.
Through three games, Brunson is shooting just 37.0% from the field and has recorded as many turnovers as assists, with 13 in each category.
Despite those struggles, New York still holds a 2-1 lead in the series.
One statistic highlighted by Dylan Svoboda of the New York Post is particularly noteworthy: the Knicks have been outscored by 13 points in the 110 minutes Brunson has played in the series.
At times, New York’s offense has appeared more fluid when Brunson is off the floor, relying less on isolation possessions and more on ball movement and quick decision-making against San Antonio’s length and defensive pressure.
Even with the inefficiency, Brunson has continued to produce points, scoring at least 30 in two of the first three games.
However, much of that production has come in short bursts, particularly late in games, including a key stretch during the closing minutes of Game 1.
The Knicks will need more consistent production from Brunson if they want to maintain their advantage in the series.
