On Tuesday, May 5, leadership from the ABA League visited the headquarters of Euroleague Basketball in Barcelona, Spain, according to the official announcement. The meeting included EuroLeague Basketball Chief Executive Officer Chus Bueno and senior executives.
Discussions focused on identifying opportunities to strengthen European basketball across sporting and commercial dimensions. Topics included competition structure, sustainability of growth models, and potential new value creation across clubs and leagues.
Both organizations reiterated their commitment to maintaining open dialogue. They also outlined an intention to explore a long-term strategic partnership designed to expand collaboration and support innovation within European basketball.
The 2025-26 EuroLeague regular season provided a competitive backdrop to the discussions. Olympiacos finished the regular season in first place with a 26–12 record, followed closely by Valencia and Real Madrid, both maintaining strong winning percentages across 38 games.
Fenerbahce and Zalgiris also finished inside the top five, while Hapoel Tel Aviv, Panathinaikos, and Monaco rounded out a tightly grouped upper tier. The standings reflected a narrow margin between playoff positions, with multiple clubs separated by only a small number of wins.
Further down the table, Barcelona and Crvena Zvezda both ended the season at 21–17, underlining the compressed mid-table competition. Teams such as Dubai, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Bayern remained in play-in or fringe positions, highlighting the depth of balance across the league structure.
