Billy Donovan responds to Bulls front office comments

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan responded Thursday to comments from team president Michael Reinsdorf, who said the organization wouldn’t want to hire a head of basketball operations who isn’t supportive of Donovan.

Speaking to reporters, including Ian Nicholas Quillen of The Associated Press, Donovan downplayed the significance of those remarks.

“I think Michael was making the point of how he felt about me,” the coach said. “But I also understand that, like I said, everybody’s got to look out for what is best for the Bulls at that point in time.”

In a separate discussion about the team’s direction, Julia Poe of The Chicago Tribune wrote in a mailbag that the next front office should place a stronger emphasis on player development and scouting.

She noted that former executive Arturas Karnisovas was “lacking notably in his willingness to fill out staffing in key departments and allowed personal issues to dictate his personnel management.
