The Toronto Raptors have signed guard Tyreke Key, promoting him after a strong run with their G League affiliate, Raptors 905.
Key, 27, spent the past two seasons with Raptors 905 and briefly signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Toronto last September before being waived the same day.
He stood out this season, averaging 16.6 points in 33 games (14 starts) while shooting 52.1% from the field and 42.1% from three.
Undrafted in 2023 out of Tennessee after beginning his college career at Indiana State, Key also had a stint in Belgium before joining the G League.
Toronto had an open roster spot following the expiration of Markelle Fultz’s 10-day contract, so no additional move was needed.
The team declined to sign Fultz to another short-term deal, with earlier reports pointing to Key as a likely replacement.
Blake Murphy of Sportsnet noted that the Raptors often reward strong G League performances, which aligns with Key’s promotion.
There could still be roster changes ahead of the playoffs, as one of the team’s two-way players, either Alijah Martin or A.J. Lawson, may be elevated, which would require waiving a player on a standard contract.
