Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder is once again in the mix for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award, with a chance to claim the honor for a second straight year.

He’s competing against a strong group that includes Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, and Luka Doncic, who currently leads the league in scoring.

Despite being a leading candidate himself, SGA chose not to campaign for the award, as ESPN’s Dave McMenamin notes. He’s averaging 31.6 points per game, second in the league, along with a career-best 6.5 assists.

“No, I’m good. Thanks for asking, though,” he said. “Yeah, I’m good. I let my game do the talking.”

While he’s staying out of the debate personally, Gilgeous-Alexander acknowledged that the MVP discussion is healthy for the league overall.

“I think it’s good for the league. I think it’s good chatter,” he said. “It gives people something to talk about. There’s a lot of good players in this league and a lot of guys in the conversation because of that.”

Gilgeous-Alexander has played 8 seasons for the Thunder and Clippers. He has averaged 25.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 526 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games. He has won 1 MVP award, 1 Finals MVP award, and 1 NBA championship.
