The Brooklyn Nets have signed Malachi Smith to a second 10-day contract, league sources told Michael Scotto of Hoopshype on Wednesday, March 25. Smith has averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 rebounds in 19.5 minutes across six games, shooting 50% from both the field and three-point range.

Smith went undrafted in 2023 and initially joined the Portland Trail Blazers for Summer League before brief stints with Rip City Remix, Wisconsin Herd, and Memphis Hustle. He was traded to the Long Island Nets in September 2025, where he averaged 10.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 22.6 minutes per game this season.

Nets G League head coach Mfon Udofia has facilitated three NBA call-ups from Long Island this season, including Smith, Grant Nelson, and Jeenathan “Nate” Williams, who is with Golden State on a two-way contract.

Brooklyn is currently 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 17-55 record, sitting outside playoff contention. The team has leaned on developing players, with Michael Porter Jr. leading the squad at 24.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, followed by Noah Clowney and Nic Claxton.

The Nets will evaluate Smith’s impact over the next few games, with the potential for a longer-term contract depending on performance.
