In a recent interview with Julie Yalap of INFOSPORT+, veteran wing Evan Fournier shared that he seriously thought about stepping away from basketball following the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he helped the French national team earn a silver medal.
Fournier explained that the idea of retirement crossed his mind after a challenging stretch in the NBA and that he took some time to reflect on what he wanted next in his career.
“I seriously considered retiring after the Paris Olympics,” Fournier said. “I had given myself a little bit of time to think about it. I went to the mountains and I thought, ‘Okay, let’s give it a go. I’ll enjoy it.’
“I was coming off two difficult seasons with the Knicks and I deeply love basketball, so I thought, ‘Enjoy yourself and end your career on that note.’”
Fournier also discussed why the opportunity to join Olympiacos appealed to him, noting that the move helped renew his enjoyment of the game.
The veteran guard added that he currently expects to continue playing for only a few more seasons, saying he plans to retire within the next two or three years.
