Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue reflected on the team reaching .500 after Monday’s 126-118 victory against the New York Knicks at Intuit Dome. “It means a lot, just about our guys in the locker room staying with it,” Lue said. “To start 6 and 21 and be 500 right now is a big thing for us.”

Lue praised the scoring distribution across the lineup. “I loved it. Ben was more direct tonight. Darius’s pace getting into the paint, making the right play, delivering the ball,” he said. “Time and time again guys got open shots. We shot 39 threes after shooting 22 before. Our pace generated a lot of it.”

Discussing the late-game execution, Lue noted, “I thought they did a good job. They’re a good team, put pressure with Brunson and KAT. We have to stagger Kawhi and Darius better, but the guys closed it out well.”

Minutes management has been a recurring challenge. “It’s very frustrating when you catch a rhythm and then have to decide whether to keep guys rolling or take them out to manage minutes,” Lue said. He emphasized the importance of energy from role players like Derrick Jones Jr. “DJ took responsibility tonight on Brunson. His length and size were good. They stayed physical and poised.”

Lue sees potential in his core lineup despite restrictions. “We could play at a faster pace. With Jordan, DJ, KD, Ben, we can push the pace, attack early, and get into our sets,” he said. He also highlighted the Clippers’ emphasis on forcing opponents to make field goals. “Our motto is make field goals, no free throws. It’s going to be a long night otherwise.”

New acquisitions have adjusted quickly under Lue’s guidance. “Darius, Ben, Isaiah came in fresh, ready to play, having something to prove. They’ve been doing a really good job,” he said. He stressed teaching aggression balanced with smart decision-making. “We need players to be aggressive, score, make the right play, especially in transition, getting downhill and to the free throw line.”

Lue credited communication and film work for player development. “Showing them what we like, how to execute, they’ve been receptive. Ben understands when to make the obvious plays, when to attack, when to get lobs,” he said. “It’s about letting them be who they are but making the right choices.”

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 29 points, while Bennedict Mathurin scored 28 off the bench. Darius Garland added 23 points and five three-pointers, and Derrick Jones Jr. contributed 16 points. The win improves Los Angeles to 32-32 and positions them for a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, while the Knicks visit Utah the same night.
