Jared McCain said he was caught off guard by the deal that moved him from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Oklahoma City Thunder, explaining that he believed he could have developed into a long-term piece in Philadelphia, according to James Herbert of CBS Sports.

“I definitely thought it could work,” McCain said. “Long-term, I definitely think it could work. I loved playing with them. It was really fun. And I’m going to miss it, too.

“So I think there was definitely potential there, but they made the best decision for what they thought it was and we’ve just gotta live with it and kind of move on.”

Since joining Oklahoma City, the former Sixers guard has played well in his new role, averaging 11.7 points in 19.0 minutes per game across 13 appearances.

McCain has played 2 seasons for the 76ers and Thunder. He has averaged 10.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 73 regular-season games.
