Ahead of his return, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics addressed the team during a meeting to thank teammates, coaches, and staff for supporting him throughout his rehabilitation, Jay King of The Athletic reports.

King adds that Tatum remained highly involved with the group during his recovery, regularly attending both practices and games despite being sidelined.

“It was nice for him to get up there and talk,” Derrick White said. “And for him to kind of get his voice back into the team. Because he’s been around, but he hasn’t had that type of voice.”

While Tatum was out, Jaylen Brown stepped into the role of primary scoring option for Boston and delivered career-best performances that pushed him into MVP consideration.

With Tatum returning to the lineup, Brown acknowledged that the team will need to readjust its approach and find the right balance.

“It’s going to be a great challenge for me,” Brown said. “It’s going to be a great challenge for all of us. It’s going to test all of our patience. It’s going to test our humility. All of the above.

“We’ve just got to be prepared for there to be some ups and downs. I’m prepared for that. How you handle adversity will be kind of a measure.”
