Victor Wembanyama recorded 27 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks as the San Antonio Spurs erased a 25-point deficit to defeat the LA Clippers 117-112 Friday at Frost Bank Center.
Kawhi Leonard led Los Angeles with 30 points and nine rebounds, but the Clippers’ three-game winning streak ended.
After trailing 75-50 in the third quarter, San Antonio opened the fourth with an 18-5 run to take its first lead since the opening minutes. Wembanyama blocked Kris Dunn’s reverse layup, triggering a fast break that ended with an alley-oop dunk by Carter Bryant.
Julian Champagnie added 20 points and nine rebounds, while De’Aaron Fox contributed 19 points and nine boards. Devin Vassell hit a key 3-pointer for a 99-97 lead, keeping the momentum with the Spurs.
The game’s decisive moment came when Wembanyama converted an uncontested dunk to give San Antonio a 113-112 lead with 16 seconds remaining. Nicolas Batum turned the ball over on the ensuing possession, and Stephon Castle sealed the win with a rebound of his own missed free throw and a layup with one second left.
Brook Lopez scored 26 points for the Clippers, including nine in the first quarter, and the team led by as many as 25 before San Antonio’s rally.
The Spurs shot 38% from the field and 30% on 3-pointers in the first half, trailing 66-46 at halftime—their largest halftime deficit this season. The comeback improved San Antonio’s record to 46-17, second in the Western Conference, with 14 wins in their last 15 games.
San Antonio hosts the Houston Rockets on Sunday, while the Clippers travel to Memphis on Saturday.
