The Boston Celtics confirmed that Jayson Tatum will return to the lineup on Friday when the team hosts the Dallas Mavericks, marking his comeback from an Achilles injury suffered less than ten months ago.
The injury occurred last May during the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
In that matchup against the New York Knicks, Tatum delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with 42 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
In recent weeks, Tatum has steadily increased his on-court workload as part of his rehabilitation, participating in multiple full-contact 5-on-5 scrimmages to prepare for game action.
Even so, the team plans to ease him back gradually, limiting his minutes in his first few games to ensure a safe transition.
Boston has managed to remain competitive despite Tatum’s absence and major offseason roster adjustments.
The team moved on from Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis through trades, while Luke Kornet and Al Horford departed in free agency.
Even with those changes, the Celtics currently hold second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
