Ausar Thompson exited the Pistons’ 121–106 defeat to the Spurs during the opening quarter after suffering a sprained ankle.

Following the game, Detroit did not provide any new information regarding the severity of the injury or a potential recovery timeline.

Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff emphasized how important Thompson is to the team, particularly because of the defensive presence and overall energy he brings whenever he is on the court.

“Ausar obviously means a lot to us,” Bickerstaff said. “What we were able to do defensively, what he does defensively, the impact he has, obviously, you miss. We just had to figure out a way collectively to pick it up.”

The injury occurred when Thompson was attacking the rim and rolled his ankle while driving to the basket with 9:54 remaining in the first quarter.

This season, Thompson has been a steady contributor for Detroit, averaging 10.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
