Noah Penda has quickly become an unexpected contributor for the Orlando Magic during his rookie season, stepping into a larger role than anticipated after injuries reshaped the team’s rotation.
Selected 32nd overall in last June’s draft, Penda was not originally projected to play major minutes right away, but he has helped stabilize the team during a challenging stretch, Spencer Davies writes for RG.
Davies notes that Penda’s effectiveness has remained steady regardless of how he is used.
Whether entering briefly off the bench or finishing games as part of the starting group, the rookie forward has maintained the same level of intensity and focus, showing maturity beyond his experience level.
A major part of his value has come through rebounding, particularly on the offensive glass.
According to Davies, the Magic’s offensive rebounding rate drops by nine percent whenever Penda leaves the floor, underscoring how important his energy and positioning have been to the team’s overall performance.
Penda said his teammates have played a significant role in helping him adjust to the NBA, but he singled out veteran guard Tyus Jones, who was traded at the deadline, as someone who provided especially meaningful support early in the season.
Jones helped guide him through periods when he wasn’t seeing consistent playing time and encouraged him to stay ready for opportunities when they came.
