Rudy Gobert delivered a strong performance in Friday’s win over Dallas, but the Timberwolves center will now have to be especially careful moving forward after receiving another one-game suspension tied to accumulated flagrant foul points, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Any additional flagrant foul points for Gobert this season would trigger an automatic two-game suspension.
The four-time Defensive Player of the Year acknowledged the physical nature of the play he faces nightly and expressed frustration with how officiating decisions have affected him.
Gobert said opposing players frequently initiate heavy contact, which he believes often goes unpunished.
“Guys are coming at me every night, hitting me in the face, grabbing me,” the big man said.
“They purposely foul me. That was like five times tonight. Run into my knees trying to box me out. All these plays are dangerous, and I’m fine with it, you know? But it’s really hard when you get super penalized, and people can do anything without accountability on me. So hopefully they look at that and make it a little more fair.”
Gobert has played 13 seasons for the Jazz and Timberwolves. He has averaged 12.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in 884 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games, and has won 4 Defensive Player of the Year awards.
