Miami Heat star guard Tyler Herro has been out since January 15 with what the team initially described as a rib injury.

According to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald, Herro actually sustained a buckle rib fracture involving three ribs during a January 10 game in Indiana.

He continued playing in three additional games afterward while receiving Toradol injections to manage the pain, but an MRI later revealed the full severity of the injury, leading the team to sideline him for several weeks.

Herro’s return now appears to be approaching. Chiang reports that he is expected to participate in practice Thursday and could be back in game action within the next few days, provided there are no setbacks in his recovery.

Injuries have limited the player throughout the season, restricting him to just 11 appearances so far.

When healthy, however, he has performed at a high level, averaging 21.9 points in 31.7 minutes per game while posting an efficient .497/.358/.902 shooting line.

As Chiang notes, Herro’s return could help revive a Miami offense that has cooled after a strong start.

Since December 5, the Heat rank 22nd in the NBA in offensive rating, a stretch during which Herro has played in only six games.
